The God of Restoration

The God of RestorationBut they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31

I have shared many times how climbing has helped me find healing on the rock, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It is the reason I am here today, and for this ministry.

Since Chick Climber started, I have seen this same happen for many other women. God has shown simple truths about trusting Him and letting go. He has helped overcome fears, broken down barriers and peeled back weaknesses that needed to be addressed. He has brought healing from trauma and joy during suffering. Through climbing He has taught patience, perseverance, and determination. He has brought rest for the weary, joy to the broken hearted, and rejuvenation for the overwhelmed. I have seen confidence built, grace restored, and forgiveness found. Through climbing He has even brought support and friendship for many who were lost and feeling alone.

Our climbing group has countless stories of how God has used rock climbing to teach us about His nature and His will for our lives. I think these lessons can be summed up in one simple phrase. God is the God of restoration.

But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’ – Jeremiah 30:17

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once more. – Psalm 71: 20-21

Every need is different. Not everyone is dealing with life altering struggles. However, we all have one thing in common. We are either coming out of a trial, going through a trial, or headed into one. This journey called life can be filled with lots of joy. However, suffering in one way or another is inevitable. It is in those times that we can hold onto the promises of God and know that He will bring about healing and restoration in our life.

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. – Joel 2:25-26

Does that mean restoration will look as we expect? Not always. Death and loss happens, and consequences can be unavoidable. However, God does promise to restore and bring us out of our trials and pain, according to His purposes and plans. There has never been a time that I have looked back on a trial and not seen God’s healing presence in my life.

God of Restoration

The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. – Isiah 35:1-2a

Is there a burden you are carrying today? Allow “the Rock,” to demonstrate His presence on the rock. I also encourage you to share your burdens with me, or someone from the leadership team. With a large group, it is difficult for us to always pick up on a need. However, we are here. We would love to listen and pray with you. We would love to walk with you as you find hope, peace and God’s promised restoration.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. – Romans 15:30
