How many times have you been stuck on the crux, pumped out, fatigued, and totally blank on what to do next. If there was only a tiny hold, you would be able to stick the move and make it to the next bolt. You look up and all around. It seems like there is nothing to hold onto! Just as you feel your body about to give way, you reach for the seemingly tiny, useless crack above in desperation. Much to your surprise, that tiny crack is actually a nice, deep, hidden pocket. You wrap your fingers into the pocket and easily pull yourself up, find a couple great foot placements, and clip that next bolt. A sigh usually follows. You may even whisper, “thank you Jesus.” That, my friends, is what I like to call a, “Thank you Jesus hold.”
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19
Through my life I have experienced many times where I had no clue how to move forward, or what to do next. I remember many times as a single mom, when I didn’t know where the next meal was going to come from, or how the rent was going to get paid. There were many nights, gripped by fear, where I would sob on my knees, crying out to God in total desperation. Time and time again, God was faithful. Somehow that thank you Jesus hold would appear at just the right time. I would receive an unexpected bonus at work, an anonymous gift, or that helping hand of a friend or family. God was always faithful and never let me down.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. – Hebrews 10:23
All these years later, I look back on my life in amazement. There has never been an impossible crux, without a thank you Jesus hold appearing at just the right time, with just the right amount of help. Through this latest bout of health and injury, I am faced with a lot of questions and uncertainty. As I face these challenges, I hold on to the countless provisions of the past, knowing that my God is faithful. Even if the way forward seems out of my reach, in faith I reach upward for that next thank you Jesus hold.
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3: 22-23
As you face the challenges in your own life, rest in the knowledge that Jesus has your back. He loves you, and wants the very best for your life. He has a plan, a purpose, and a future for you. Reach out in faith in expectation for your thank you Jesus hold. His Word promises that it will be there.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11
